Where is San Remo?

So many places lay claim to be ‘lifestyle destinations’, but San Remo on the New South Wales central coast may have more just cause than most. Just 90 minutes north of Sydney and less than an hour from Newcastle, San Remo enjoys tranquil creek frontage, a prime location on the edge of the Budgewoi Lake and is just a few kilometres from nearby beaches. San Remo may be just the permanent sea change you’ve been dreaming about, or the ideal spot for that family holiday home.

Living in San Remo

Village life is alive and well in San Remo with a small population of just over 4,300 people, all living within a stone’s throw from the picturesque Budgewoi Lake. San Remo is home to the busy Northlakes high school and the suburb has its own convenient shopping precinct with a Coles supermarket, bottle shop, a pharmacy and a tavern to service most of the local needs. With the Pacific Highway right at their door, as well as good local train and bus services, nearby facilities at Charmhaven and Tuggerah are also within easy reach as well as all the city buzz of Sydney or Newcastle within 90 minutes of your driveway.

Things to See and Do in San Remo

The lake is San Remo’s main attraction, with locals taking full advantage of it at all hours of the day. The natural environment is truly idyllic with San Remo bordered on 3 sides by natural beauty. Locals can choose from any number of water based activities, in whichever direction they look - from the Wallarah Creek on San Remo’s south-western edge to the bushland and the Hammond canal to the east and of course Budgewoi Lake, as well as the other connecting lakes in the surrounding areas.

The south facing aspects of San Remo can be enjoyed to their full advantage by everyone with lovely waterfront parklands along the lake’s edge. It’s very easy to get out and enjoy the great outdoors when it is literally at your doorstep. You can bump into the neighbours while walking the dog, take in the scenery as you ride your bike beside the lake, or walk to the local tavern for a casual Friday night dinner.

The only thing you’ll need to worry about is the noise of the local wildlife as birds, frogs, cicadas and crickets come to life at various times of the day, reminding you that they live there too!

San Remo Accommodation

If you’re looking for space and serenity, San Remo has it in spades. Some of the best houses San Remo has to offer are in the suburb’s most desired location - along Liamena Avenue - with huge blocks that back on to the waterfront parklands. Basically, the lake becomes your backyard! However, if you’re looking to buy property, San Remo will not disappoint with blocks that blend into the natural environment, trees in every street and large back yards, perfect for growing families. For those looking at renting houses in San Remo, there are options for you too. The rental market is dominated by 3 – 5 bedroom homes with plenty of outdoor space, at rents that would barely get you a studio apartment in Sydney’s inner city.
