Toukley straddles the southern shore of the Budgewoi Lake and the northern part of Tuggerah Lake in the estuary. Commuters can reach Newcastle in the north in under an hour and Sydney to the south in 90 minutes, via the M1 Pacific Motorway.

Toukley offers the tranquil relaxed vibe of a coastal village with all the modern conveniences of a thriving community. The local population is around 4,000 people and the average age tends towards the late 40s. It has had a reputation in the past for being a destination for retirees but the affordable, safe lifestyle has attracted more families to the area and the age ranges are now levelling out somewhat.    
 
Toukley is well serviced with either local or neighbouring suburban facilities. The centre of town has all the essentials – supermarket, post office, pharmacy and restaurants and cafes. For shopaholics, Westfield Tuggerah is just over 20 minutes drive away. The suburb is a popular holiday spot with a few resorts along the way into town and this brings just enough business to contribute to a vibrant local economy without jamming the streets with traffic.
 

Things to See and Do in Toukley

Toukley’s location puts it in prime position to access the endless possibilities for relaxation or adventure (or both) on the water. The beaches at Cabbage Tree harbour and Tuggerah Lake are all just a few minutes away and there are great walking paths along the shorelines offering picturesque views of the natural surroundings.
 
Popular local water activities including canoeing, sailing and skiing and there is good swimming to be had too in the lakes or the harbour. The lakes offer great fishing for passionate anglers and crabbing and prawning is possible in the summer.
 
There is abundant wildlife to enjoy too and birdwatchers will delight in the range of species of waterbirds in the local area. The lighthouse at Norah Head is also a popular attraction with great views from the head, tours of the lighthouse and a bustling café.
